Raiding guide for new players Empty Raiding guide for new players

Hi, i thought about doing an introductory guide for all new wow players starting to do lvl 80 instaces, some is based on personal experience so please comment with your opinion.

First, as soon as you hit 80, you can go to Dalaran and get the quest The Champion's Call, for some gold and a decent weapon.

There are 6 kind of instances:

- Normal 5 man instances: good for starting gearing up when you get to lvl 80. Bosses drop Stone Keeper's Shards which can be traded for heirloom, some enchants, gems and others in Wintergrasp (near VOA entrance). The Forge of Souls, Pit of Saron and Halls of Reflection are the only normal instances where you can get Emblem of Triumphs, the second is particularly good to farm EoTs since it's fast. To enter these 3 instances you need to do a quest chain, which can be started in Dalaran, by the entrance of one of the banks. If you join using Random Dungeon Finder system, you will get 2 EoTs a day.

- Heroic 5 man instances: same instances as normal, but harder difficulty. Gear is not really important, but you need to know the instances. All bosses drop EoFs and SKS. Joining by RDF will get you 2 Emblems of Frost by doing the first of the day, and 2 EoTs by repeating. To join RDF hc you need about 2.5k gearscore, and it shares the prize with RDF normal, meaning that if you do RDF normal and get the 2 EoTs daily, once you join RDF hc, you won't get EoFs. NOTE: heroic instances can only be done once a day, for example you can do only 1 PoS hc or Fos hc a day.

All Emblems can be traded in Dalaran for gear.

- Normal 10 man instances: meant for more experienced players, drop better gear. Some players ask high gear and achievements for some 10m raids. All bosses drop EoTs. In particular, Icecrown Citadel's bosses drop EoF instead of EoTs, but the raid leaders usually ask high GS for this. Vault of Archavon instance's bosses drop class items, which otherwise can be obtained with emblems/honor/arena points. 10m instances can only be done once a week, so it's recommended that you know the people you are raiding with, because if the raid fails, you will be locked for nothing.

- Heroic 10 man instances: same as 10m normal, but harder and better drops. Shares lock with 10m normal.

- Normal 25 man instances: same instances as 10m but increased difficulty. However, if you have a good raid group they can sometimes be easier than 10m. It's also harder to get the needed gear because you have to roll against a lot of people who also need that gear. Can only be done once a week, but it doesn't share lock with 10m instances.

- Heroic 25 man instances: same as 25m normal, but harder and better drops. Shares lock with 25m normal. These kind of instances drop the best gear of the game (ICC), but due to it's difficulty, not many people run these kind of raid.

There's also a raid finder similar to RDF, but in molten it doesn't work. Some of these raids have weekly quests, which can be aquired in Dalaran, in the Violet Hold. These quests can only be done once a week and reward 5 EoTs and 5 EoFs.

Now, in all this raids you will find a lot of gear which you shouldnt need just because you need GS. To help you decide which gear can be good for you, here's what classes need the main stats:

- Stamina: all classes, more needed for tanks.
- Strenght: all tanks (except druid), and all dps plate wearers (paladin, warrior, death knight).
- Agility: mail and leather melee dps (enhancement shamman, hunter, cat druid, rogue), tank druid to increase dodge rating. Plate dpers (paladin, warrior, death knight) also benefict from it, but it's not their main stat.
- Intellect: all spell casters. Also good for enhancement shamman and hunter when it comes with attack power and agility.
- Spirit: specially needed for resto druid and holy priest to increase healing (contrary to what most people think, not all healers benefict from spirit, hpala and rshammy need more intellect). Also good for fire mage (increase critical strike rating with Molten Armor), and warlock (increase spell power with Fel Armor).

That's all, i think that covers all the basics. If you got any question, post here or meet me in game. Suggestion and opinions also welcome.
